Closing the Gap

September 5

I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the work of the LORD: ..."  Deuteronomy 5:5

"... nothing puts GOD in a killing mood like sin."

If GOD says the wages of sin is death, and HE does, then someone has to die; and nothing puts GOD in a killing mood like sin.  Thus, to find someone willing to get into the gap between GOD and the focus of HIS wrath, is to discover a person of selfless love and tremendous courage.  After all, herein lies the express reason HIS SON would one day leave glory (cf. Galatians 4:4).  Though there have been times where the LORD has fished for an intercessor in humanity's pond; each of us have failed in short order to survive out of our element, when once pulled up on the banks of Heaven.   "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before ME ... but I found none."  Heck, HE even resorted to a serpent on a pole during one crisis in the Old Testament to stave off annihilation.

"And HE saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore HIS arm brought salvation unto HIM; and HIS righteousness, it sustained HIM."  The great work of CHRIST was not HIS incarnation, HIS perfect life, HIS teaching, or even HIS miracles. No, the great work of JESUS CHRIST was never realized through HIS life, HE was shunned of us for the consummate of all that. "JESUS saith unto them, MY meat is to do the will of HIM that sent ME, and to finish HIS work."  Only at Calvary could the SON of GOD finally proclaim: "it is finished"!  When HE died willingly in our place, that forever closed the gap between GOD and man. "HE is despised and rejected of men; a MAN of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from HIM; HE was despised, and we esteemed HIM not."  Yea, since time began, we have been the object of HIS inexplicable love, and the open wound of man's sin has been forever closed and healed through the sinless blood of HIS SON ... Hallelujah!

"For there is one GOD, and one MEDIATOR between GOD and men, the MAN CHRIST JESUS;"  What faithful intercessors such as Abel, Abraham, Moses,  Joshua, and all the prophets could not accomplish through the sum of their lives, CHRIST did in one dark moment on Golgotha.  And what we could never sustain through our own effort, HE keeps until that glorious day when faith shall be sight, and the gap of godlessness forever gone.

"Wherefore HE is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto GOD by HIM, seeing HE ever liveth to make intercession for them."

"Progress has brought us both unbounded opportunities and unbridled difficulties.  Thus, the measure of our civilization will not be that we have done much, but what we have done with that much."
