The Precipice of Repentance

September 25

“... Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian."  Acts 26:28

"The finished work of CHRIST on the cross, will beget the present work of faith in the saint."

In the year 4000 A.D., will you be regretting or rejoicing over the decisions you've made in this one life GOD has given you?  King Agrippa, the subject of today's verse has, for just shy of 2000 years, been reassessing his response to the gospel.  Without a doubt, he is currently and thoroughly persuaded now, concerning CHRIST; but with prohibition forever equal to the doubt, he is unable to cross death's chasm to reconsider his choice.  "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the HOLY GHOST ... If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the SON OF GOD afresh, and put HIM to an open shame."  This man was led to the very precipice of repentance, where one mere step of faith would have brought him to the SAVIOR, but he, banking on the poll of his peers, turned back, and turned HIM down.  "King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest."  Herein lies the classic, and yet tragically common belief among men which does not save!  Because our first forefather "almost" obeyed GOD in the Garden, we have been "almost" right with HIM ever since.  Our sinful natures hold to a 'close enough', that's good', "almost" attitude it seems in all that we are and do; but it cannot be so when it comes to our salvation.  There are no 'ifs', 'ands', 'buts', 'maybes', or percentiles regarding repentance and its offspring of saving faith.  If you doubt your conversion to CHRIST, there is good doubt that you are saved.  As sure as physical birth is irrefutable, even more so is its spiritual counterpart.  As a man looks to a mirror for the affirmation of his carnal life, so too the spiritual man will see his reflection in the mirror of GOD'S Word.  The primary reason lost men don't read the Bible is because they don't like what they see!

"Then said they unto HIM, what shall we do, that we might work the works of GOD?  JESUS answered and said unto them, this is the work of GOD, that ye believe on HIM whom HE hath sent."  Faith alone does save, but the faith that saves is never alone.  The finished work of CHRIST on the cross, will beget the present work of faith in the saint.  JESUS was regularly thronged by the relatives of Agrippa's ilk who were "almost" sick of their sin.  Multitudes gathered, and then melted back into depravity's landscape when forced to see themselves against the backdrop of WHO HE is.  "And all flesh shall see the salvation of GOD."  A few stood still long enough to not only see HIM, but experience for themselves HIS mercy and saving grace.

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the NAME of the SON OF GOD; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the NAME of the SON OF GOD."

"The civil government, as all life, stands under the Law of GOD ... when any office commands that which is contrary to the Word of GOD, those who hold that office abrogate their authority and they are not to be obeyed."
