Ditch Diggers

September 24

And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise ... as I do, so shall ye do."  Judges 7:17

"Every one of us are simultaneously, a leader and a follower."

Every one of us are simultaneously, a leader and a follower.  Whether conscious or unconscious of it, this paradox plays out in a myriad of ways each day as we are involved in one, the other, and even both.

What kind of follower are you?  To the exact degree we become astute as a follower, we similarly develop as a leader; and on this opposite side of the coin, the preceding equation is inverted.  It is widely said, and true, that in order to be an effective leader, you must first learn to be a loyal follower.  No greater demonstration of this is there, than the person who can lead him\herself in truth.  "Lead me in THY truth, and teach me: for THOU art the GOD of my salvation; on THEE do I wait all the day."  To those of us who are adopted of GOD, we know that FATHER knows best; and any direction for personal leadership commences at Calvary.  JESUS wisely asked HIS followers one day: "Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?"  In spite of that probing question, multiple thousands die daily, having followed the wrong person, with their wrong philosophy, and their wrong theology; through the veil of death, and into the wrong eternity.  If you are not careful, the ditch you are digging for yourself here, will turn to an irreversible rut, which ultimately channels your life to an inescapable Hell.  If the path you're currently following came to an end today, where would it have led you to?

What kind of leader are you?  Have you any followers you're able to command, like Gideon, here in the book of Judges?  "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of CHRIST."  Can you direct your subordinates in the pursuit of GOD'S will with a straight face?  For right or wrong, every follower you or I have is a willing one, if they fit the bill.  Watch closely and you'll find that they all emulate you in some way or another.  As you do, so shall they; and if you are humble enough as a leader, you can glean a wealth of data about yourself by simply observing those you lead.

"O send out THY light and THY truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto THY holy hill, and to THY tabernacles."

For Love of Country
 Daniel Webster  (1782-1852)
(U. S. Statesman)
"If we work on marble, it will perish; if on brass, time will efface it; if we rear up temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and imbue them with principles, with the just fear of GOD and the love of our fellow men, we engrave on those tablets something that will brighten to all eternity."
