Love is Blind

September 22

“Philip saith unto HIM, LORD, shew us the FATHER, and it sufficeth us."   John 14:8

"... the query on your part is very telling about the relationship you hold with GOD."

How long has JESUS been with you?  The answer which the LORD gives Philip has to be somewhat convicting to most of us.  "JESUS saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known ME, Philip?  He that hath seen ME hath seen the FATHER ..."  Even mere moments in HIS presence should suffice to satisfy all spiritual curiosity here; till faith one day turns to sight there.  Do you possess the audacity to glance into the Bible and say: "shew us the FATHER"?  It is the SPIRIT WHO opens blinded eyes to the SAVIOR, and HE WHO then introduces us to the FATHER; thus the query on your part is very telling about the relationship you hold with GOD.  The old cliché: 'what you see is what you get' ... is a gross distortion of reality, even in the temporal realm.  "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."  Closer to the truth is: 'you'll get more than you bargained for'; and it will be especially so when it comes to the eternal things of GOD.  "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."  Perhaps the closest axiom regarding all of this is: 'you'll get what you don't see' ... that is at the essence faith!  GOD has chosen to reveal HIMSELF in manifold ways: "The heavens declare the glory of GOD; and the firmament sheweth HIS handywork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.  There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard."  The charity of HIS hand, and HIS evidence in creation, are so clear, that Paul proclaimed all who would deny HIM will be "without excuse" on judgment day, where they'll most surely meet the ONE they denied face to face.

"For we walk by faith, not by sight:"  Must HE treat us like Thomas, rubbing our doubting noses in HIS nail pierced hands?  "For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?  But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it."  Look to the wrong person, place, or thing; and doubt will come crashing over the sides of your vessel.  Stay affixed long enough, and you, like Philip will succumb to spiritual myopia.  Love is blind! ... and never any greater than when the object of your affection is JESUS CHRIST.

"WHOM having not seen, ye love; in WHOM, though now ye see HIM not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:"
