A Sincere Supplicator

“And I set my face unto the LORD GOD, to seek by prayer and supplication, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:"  Daniel 9:3

"GOD is not elusive, but HE is holy ..."

Are you set up to seek GOD?  When it comes to an acceptable approach on HIS terms, the fact is, most of us are not.  The humility bar is just too low, and we are unwilling to stoop our big ol' spirit down to that level.  "For thus saith the HIGH and LOFTY ONE that inhabiteth eternity, whose NAME is HOLY; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones."  We err thinking we must ascend to meet HIM; when in fact it is HE rather, WHO will descend to meet us.  There is no doubt some profundity to the notion that Moses went up to GOD to retrieve the Law; while JESUS came down as GOD to give the grace.  "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."  If the sinner, therefore, comes carrying his sin into the Throne Room, it had better be bagged in sackcloth, with the sole intent of confessing and forsaking it.

Many of us hold to our prayer journals, which in reality, look more like want ads and wish lists than the diary of serious supplication.  We bombard Heaven with me, my, and mine; and forfeit any meaningful prayer life in the process.  "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."  The cycle then turns to self analysis of why GOD doesn't answer, ending with a faulty conclusion, eventually heaping the blame on HIM, and adding yet more delusion to a dead prayer closet.

"... The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."  Elias may have been a man subject to like passions, but his faith is in short supply in these last days leading up to our LORD'S return.  "But without faith it is impossible to please HIM: for he that cometh to GOD must believe that HE is, and that HE is a rewarder of them that diligently seek HIM."  GOD is not elusive, but HE is holy; and all who will set to seek HIM must understand this.  Humility unto effectual, fervent prayer begins with a look at the SAVIOR: "That at the NAME of JESUS every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD, to the glory of GOD the FATHER." ... and coming face to face with JESUS CHRIST, even for a moment will serve to buckle every knee sooner ... or later.

"And ye shall seek ME, and find ME, when ye shall search for ME with all your heart."

"We are as a city set upon a hill, in the open view of all the earth ... We profess ourselves to be a people in covenant with GOD, and therefore ... the LORD our GOD ... will cry shame upon us if we walk contrary to the covenant which we have promised to walk in."
