Simply Successful

September 17

... for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."   Joshua 1:8

"Are you successfully sorrowful?"

Are not the factors and determinates of success relative to us? ... in the eye of the beholder, we might say.  Some would claim corporate achievement as the mark, while someone else would suggest a happy home.  Others might cite letters of academia which follow the comma after their name.  Still more would attach a dollar figure to their definition of success.  "The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and HE addeth no sorrow with it."  Are you successfully sorrowful? ... sorrowfully successful?  Ever come to the end of some phase of your success race, only to discover the rats beat you there?  "Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is ... If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: ..."  Could it be that all you define as success will one day go up in smoke?

True success however, as Biblically defined, is not difficult to nail down.  Only here, in Joshua, is this word used in all of Holy Writ; and herein, the path to success could not be more clear: "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: ..."

GOD'S statement of success to Joshua, to Israel, and to us is contained in three simple stages:

#1 - A mouth filled with HIS Word:  "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth ..."

#2 - A mind that meditates on its application: "but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, ..."

#3 - A measure of "mayest", resolved to obey: "that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: ..."

A success which will endure really begins at second birth (cf. John 3:3, 5); and ends successfully in Heaven; but only to those who are personally invested in GOD'S strategy for their eternal soul.

"But HE said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of GOD, and keep it."
