"Looking unto JESUS the author and finisher of our faith ..."  Hebrews 12:2

"HE must be the vision we hold, and the focus we attend!"

Are the proverbial trees of this life's trials keeping you from seeing the forest of faith?  Where is your focus of living right now?  To what, where, or whomever you answer is exactly to what, to where, or to whomever you are headed.  You can bemoan the course you are on, but it is the course you chose; and consequently, the course that only you can change.  "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain."  In track and field, the one sure way to lose a race is by taking your eyes off of the finish line.  "I have finished my course ..."  Following our LORD involves similar focus if we are to succeed in this course of a lifetime; but without the goal in view, we can easily falter.

"And being made perfect, HE became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey HIM;"  If any other than GOD incarnate has authored the story of your life, it will turn out to be the most heartbreaking tale in the final chapter.  HE must be the vision we hold, and the focus we attend!  "For to this end CHRIST both died, and rose, and revived, that HE might be LORD ..."  If we are to follow our FINISHER and cross death's valley a victor, it will come only as we concentrate on HIS cross.  "who for the joy that was set before HIM endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of GOD."  HE has to become both strategic and tactical to our Christian course, else we run aimlessly; still one day crossing, howbeit in shame.

"If ye then be risen with CHRIST, seek those things which are above, where CHRIST sitteth on the right hand of GOD.  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."  It is rightly said that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.  In refining the axiom further, we can also safely say that where our heart will be, our eyes will have led.  Ask yourself honestly: Where am I looking to head? ... is the most pertinent question regarding your course.

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!"

"With a humble confidence in the mercies of the SUPREME and impartial GOD and RULER of the universe, we most devoutly implore HIS divine goodness to protect us happily through this great conflict, and to dispose our adversaries to reconciliation on reasonable terms, and thereby to relieve the empire from the calamities of civil war."
