One Quick Question

October 8

“... but what sayest THOU?"  John 8:5

"The unforgivable sin of Scripture is failing to take HIM at HIS word ..."

At the risk of appearing clinical, the reason most of us are so quick to condemn, has to be the assumption that everyone is just like we are ... and in essence, they are!  Could it be that the subliminal guilt we deny concerning our own sin, lashes out at others of similar ilk?  How eternally incriminating to agree with GOD regarding the death sentence of our kin, and all the while vindicate ourselves.  This of course is the precise thing forced upon JESUS during one of HIS early morning teaching sessions in the Temple.  The Bible doesn't attach a number to this band of religious hypocrites, only that "they" came with their red-handed adulteress to test the LORD'S orthodoxy on capital punishment.  "Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest THOU?"  Ever wonder what CHRIST wrote with HIS finger in the ground that day in response to their query?  Whatever it was, HE had the dirt on those good ol' boys; and isn't it ironic that their indictment was penned in the very substance of which their lives consisted (cf. Genesis 2:7).

You see, the problem with men, is not confusion over, nor is it ignorance of, what GOD has said.  When JESUS stated from the cross that: "it is finished!" ... the veil in the temple rent twain; and the stage of Heaven which sent CHRIST to die closed.  The veil here was rent, that we might go to the "Word made flesh" and respond to HIM directly with a broken and contrite heart.  You can choose to waste a lifetime holding all the religious seashells to your ear you want, but GOD is "finished" speaking to you, having preserved the Transcript of HIS SON'S day in man's court in Holy Writ.  If it is true that actions speak louder than words, then that explains why Calvary's scene continues to reverberate across man's calendar.  For nearly two thousand years and counting, the cross of CHRIST is still speaking volumes regarding the greatest act of love the world has ever known.

“... but what sayest THOU?" If you are standing before the gate of GOD, demanding an answer, your problem is not a lack of information, but a willful and deaf ear to what HE has already said.  The unforgivable sin of Scripture is failing to take HIM at HIS word; and the Bible states clearly that you would be better off never to have asked, than to ask and ignore.  But I am too bad a sinner, my sins too many!  To that, the LORD repeats what HE said to the adulteress of John chapter 8:

"Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."

For Love of Country
Patrick Henry  (1736-1799)
(American Revolutionary leader)
"... Sir, we are not weak, if we make a proper use of the means which the GOD of nature hath placed in our power.  Three millions of people, armed in the Holy cause of Liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us."
