The Goal of the Godly

October 6

“... that ye might be filled with all the fulness of GOD."  Ephesians 3:19

"Beware of those who compel you to seek HIS position instead of HIS PERSON!"

Admittedly, it is a bit paradoxical to ponder, but one can be filled by GOD, and at the same time, be oblivious to HIS fullness.  HE has chosen to simultaneously reveal HIMSELF to us while retaining the incomprehensible status of HIS infinity.  "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are MY ways higher than your ways, and MY thoughts than your thoughts."  We would have to become HIM, were it even possible, to fully comprehend the full measure of WHO HE is.  And even though the most reprobate of religionists have suggested the deifying of man down through the ages; this insane notion can be traced directly to the most infamous of botched attempts in the quest to be GOD: "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer ... For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of GOD ... I will be like the MOST HIGH ... Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell".  Beware of those who compel you to seek HIS position instead of HIS PERSON! (cf. Colossians 2:8)

With all that as a preface, as much as is humanly possible this side of Glory, the LORD does wish to fill our lives.  "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." There is a capacity for the DIVINE in each of us which GOD desires to fully occupy ... a bladder of belief, if you will, able to expand in exact proportion to our faith in HIM.  Paul would go on to insist further in this letter to the Ephesian Church that they strive: "unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of CHRIST", and "be filled with the SPIRIT".  Knowing the value of self denial, and the potential rush of CHRIST-likeness into that vacuum, this humble Apostle exhorts along the best line.

"For in HIM dwelleth all the fulness of the GODHEAD bodily."  In a fathomless nutshell, the fullness of GOD is found in full faith toward HIS SON.  "As for me, I will behold THY face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with THY likeness."  To reach the spiritual boiling point where you have just had it with HIM, is the goal of the godly, and the sweet spot of the saint.

"And of HIS fulness have all we received, and grace for grace."

For Love of Country
 Abigail Adams  (1744-1818)
(wife of John Adams, 2nd President of the United States)
"I feel no anxiety at the large armament designed against us.  The remarkable interpositions of Heaven in our favor cannot be too gratefully acknowledged.  HE WHO fed the Israelites in the wilderness, WHO clothes the lilies of the field and WHO feeds the young ravens when they cry, will not forsake a people engaged in so right a cause, if we remember HIS loving kindness."

(from a letter to her husband in Philadelphia, June 20, 1776)
