That Treat Tricks

October 31

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these ... witchcraft ... and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of GOD."  Galatians 5:20-21

"The great stroke of Satan is not his ability to coerce ..."

The great stroke of Satan is not his ability to coerce, but rather the level of deceptive power he possesses.  Hell's 3-pronged strategy is to deceive us to:

  • Doubt sin's severity

  • Treat sin lightheartedly

  • Embrace sin personally

You can safely reckon that no one is fooled by a red suit, horns, pitchfork, and a sign stating: "This Way to Hell"; but once the names and faces of sin have been successfully altered in our mind, the venom takes effect, and in that numbed state, the serpent moves in for his kill.  "Be sober, be vigilant ...", is a wasted admonition, if the Devil is not out, actively peddling his intoxicating snake oil of deceit.

One can relegate this doctrine archaic, and count all those who hold to it, of the tribe of witch hunters and Salemic in descent; but Paul told this New Testament group of churches in the region of Galatia that they who participated in "such things shall not inherit the kingdom of GOD."  That is the back door manner of saying: you will die and go to Hell! ... there is no other way under Heaven to interpret this Biblical caveat!

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."  Given the straight forward tone of Scripture on this matter, what level of involvement, or tolerance toward Halloween, this high day on the Satanic calendar, do you wish to extend yourself?  Come on, you say ... it is just some innocent fun, costumes, and candy, isn't it?  To that, I point you back to the crowd at the foot of Sinai, who possessed a similar and lax paradigm toward clear instruction from GOD.  Its just an innocent lil' ol' golden calf ... they reasoned with Moses.  Mark it down, sin is always a treat that ends up tricking the purposely naive, and willfully ignorant ... and this is one trick you'd be wise to pass up!

"There shall not be found among you any ... that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch"

For Love of Country
Daniel Webster  (1782-1852)
(U. S. Statesman)
"Finally, let us not forget the religious character of our origin.  Our fathers were brought hither by their high veneration for the Christian religion.  They journeyed by its light, and labored in its hope.  They sought to incorporate its principles with the elements of their society, and to diffuse its influence through all their institutions, civil, political, or literary ... Let us cherish these sentiments, and extend this influence still more widely ..."
