Space Grace

October 27

“The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST be with you all. Amen."  Revelation 22:21

"Amen ... GOD'S final word to HIS fallen work."

It is more than significant, that not just the Revelation, but the entire Canon of Scripture, closes in a prayer for grace.  The "Amen" (it is, and it shall be so), is GOD'S final word to HIS fallen work.  "For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by JESUS CHRIST."  The Old Testament ends with the warning of a curse; the New Testament with the promise of grace.  If mercy is the withholding of the curse, which we do deserve, then grace is its antithesis ... i.e., receiving the pardon and blessings which we don't.  "And the grace of our LORD was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in CHRIST JESUS."  Our loving FATHER, took the ledger of our bankrupt lives, wiped away the debt of our sin; and in its place, deposited the riches of HIS grace.  "For ye know the grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, that, though HE was rich, yet for your sakes HE became poor, that ye through HIS poverty might be rich."  The CREATOR, in HIS infinite wisdom, has not simply delivered us from the damnation we have earned; but with that, HE poured out upon us the gratis which we have not.  "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of GOD is eternal life through JESUS CHRIST our LORD."  Hallelujah! ... is the best one word summation which comes to mind!

Varied acronyms are offered for this inexplicable reach of love from above; with one of the most accurate being:

  • GOD'S

  • Riches

  • At

  • CHRIST'S

  • Expense

"For the grace of GOD that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men ..."  The grace of GOD is free to all, but it is not cheap.  The purchase price of our pardon is precious blood drawn from the wounds of the only SON HE sent.  "We then, as workers together with HIM, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of GOD in vain."  Whether to individuals, churches, or nations, the space, grace has been afforded us of GOD, is relatively nil.  In these days of personal, ecclesiastical, and national darkness, may the LORD shine the light of HIS reviving grace upon us while there is yet time.

"And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our GOD ... that our GOD may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving ..."

For Love of Country
Benjamin Harvey Hill  (1823-1882)
(U. S. Senator from Georgia)
"He was a foe without hate, a friend without treachery, a soldier without cruelty, and a victim without murmuring.  He was a public officer without vices, a private citizen without wrong, a neighbor without reproach, a Christian without hypocrisy, and a man without guile.  He was a Caesar without his ambition, a Frederick without his tyranny, a Napoleon without his selfishness, and Washington without his reward."
