A Trust of Truth

October 24

“That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?"  Proverbs 22:21

"That same query today is one of increasing frequency..."

Though HIS Word holds sole claim as the Library of Eternal Truth; we as HIS church have due consideration as the repository of the same.  There are not, as some have proposed, varied and sundry paths of verity.  "Sanctify them through THY truth: THY word is truth."  Nor are all of the world's philosophies and religions, merely shade and nuance of the same thing; but instead diverse, distinct, and damnable so much as the deviate from the canon.  "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the LORD that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."  In the day in which we live, the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and those who ascribe to HIM faithfully, are berated as narrow minded.  "I am ... the TRUTH ..."  The truth about the truth however, and HE WHO is its embodiment (cf. Colossians 2:9), is that it is infinitely more narrow than we can imagine.  "... strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."  In fact, truth is so narrow, that all the broadminded philosophers, intellectuals, and ecumenists, from time to now, have yet to discover it.

"... to them that send unto thee?"  GOD would, that the storeroom of each child HE redeems, have the shelves of their lives stocked with truth.  "But sanctify the LORD GOD in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"  The reality often is though, that HIS Temple which we embody, is so cluttered with the debris of doctrinal fodder, that when it is called for at our front window, the opportunity for its use is gone by the time we find it.

"What is truth?"... was the question Pontius Pilate asked CHRIST just prior to having HIM crucified.  That same query today is one of increasing frequency, and equally elusive to the disingenuous ancestors of all blasphemers.  There is a point on the personal level, where willful sin and ignorance blinds; driving truth from your presence, to be led out and slain in the Golgotha of your mind.

"THOU art near, O LORD; and all THY commandments are truth."

For Love of Country
Thomas Jefferson  (1743-1826)
(3rd President of the United States)
"ALMIGHTY GOD, WHO has given us this good land for our heritage; we humbly beseech THEE that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of THY favor and glad to do THY will.  Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning , and pure manners ... In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in THEE to fail; all of which we ask through JESUS CHRIST our LORD, Amen."

(March 4, 1805, A National Prayer for Peace)
