The Proof of Reproof

October 20

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."  Ephesians 5:11

"Our Christian lives are never intended of GOD to be mediocre."

Our Christian lives are never intended of GOD to be mediocre.  "... come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the LORD" ... is not a proposition, it is a command!  Neither is the communion table of CHRIST, a table of truce with either sin or sinners; but an intimate altar of holiness, and that of the empts degree.  "LORD, who shall abide in THY tabernacle? who shall dwell in THY holy hill?  He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart."  The LORD holds no interest in any kind of Kum-Bi-Ya involving the hodge-podge of world and religion.  "Then spake JESUS again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth ME shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."  HE did not come and die to engage the darkness of sin, but to defeat it as the LIGHT OF THE WORLD; and thus HE calls HIS followers to maintain HIS cause for coming and dying (cf. Matthew 5:14, 16).

"For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the LORD: walk as children of light:"  Though it sounds elementary , the life of the Christian can be summed up as: simply being practically, who we are essentially.  "... if any man be in CHRIST, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."  When GOD says: don't, and we won't, that is high treason of no parallel.  If however, the LORD says: don't, or do, and we obey from the heart, that is not legalism, but love unparalleled.  "These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee."  Let the snide comments come; and may we indeed be counted holier than thou, if HE is glorified.  The proof of reproof is a life of GOD fearing obedience.

"They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof."  At the end of the day, any and all fellowship we hold with the unfruitful works of darkness, will turn out to be the Benedict of the believer.  How many of GOD'S saints are plowing the night shift, unequally yoked in the harness, and out in the field of unfruitful works?

"The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light."

For Love of Country
Samuel West  (1731-1807)
(Chaplain during the Revolutionary War)
"Our cause is so just and good that nothing can prevent our success but only our sins.  Could I see a spirit of repentance and reformation prevail throughout the land I should not have the least apprehension or fear of being brought under the iron rod combined against us ... Providence has designed this continent for to be the asylum of liberty and true religion."
