Kneel to Stand

October 16

“Remember me, O my GOD, for good."  Nehemiah 13:31

"The greater the scope of sin's chasm, the greater the challenge to bridge it ..."

There is a tremendous taxing of the Christian's psyche when he\she stands against wickedness; and it is agonizingly pointed when you look around to discover you're going it alone, be it real or perceived.  It has always been those abandoned by the world, yet unto GOD, who exhibit the strength and courage to confront evil; and especially that variety found cloaked as friend or brother.  The greater the scope of sin's chasm, the greater the challenge to bridge it in the effort to pull sinners across.  To stand for GOD and HIS Word is neither popular nor easy, amidst a crowd who despise both.  The pitch of the battle must advance from your own heart, to the professing church, to the culture.  Many a soldier of CHRIST has flown over self and the saints to war with the secular, while the enemy is bivouacked, and firmly entrenched along our own lines.  As compromise increases and the disparity between right and wrong widens in these last days; those possessing this type of rare spiritual bravado are as blatantly obvious as ever.

Some of the better known examples of this from Scripture include:

  • Moses breaking the first set of Tablets at the foot of Sinai to confront his brother Aaron, and the idolatrous Israelites.

  • Daniel and his three friends who stood down the superpower of their day, in deferent love for their GOD.

  • The early disciples who proclaimed it better to obey GOD rather than man, when threatened and beaten for their witness of CHRIST.

  • Paul, who publicly withstood his fellow apostle Peter to his face, over his hypocrisy at Antioch.

  • JESUS' consistent rebuke of the religious hucksters of HIS day.

It is GOD WHO places a love for truth and a hatred for sin in the heart of HIS saints.  Thus HE must likewise be the all sufficient source of grace and courage, to combat the rabid nature sin has taken on as the end draws nigh.  To stand up for what is right, you must first kneel down before the ONE WHO determines that it is.  In doing so, remember the LORD has not promised the sea would always be calm, but only that HE will see us safely to port.

"Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of GOD, ye might receive the promise.  For yet a little while, and HE that shall come will come, and will not tarry."

For Love of Country
Baron Charles Louis Joseph de Secondat Montesquieu (1689-1755)
(French professor and philosopher)
"The principles of Christianity, deeply engraved on the heart, would be infinitely more powerful than the false honor of monarchies, than the humane virtues of republics, or the servile fear of despotic states.
Society ... must repose on principles that do not change."
