Garment of Greatness

November 6

“As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of GOD."  1 Peter 2:16

"Patrick Henry did not exclaim: 'give me freedom, or give me ..."

The distinction between freedom and liberty is the profoundest thing.  "JESUS answered them, verily, verily, I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin."  There are vast multitudes in this country, and other places on our planet, who are roaming free while simultaneously living in bondage.  "Wherein I suffer trouble ... even unto bonds; but the word of GOD is not bound."  Liberty begets freedom, but the vice-versa is not true at all; or said another way: only the liberated are free, but the free are not necessarily liberated.  The great statesman, Patrick Henry did not exclaim: 'give me freedom, or give me ...'; no, for he knew the primordial role liberty played, and thus he was willing to give all to get it or die trying.  "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."  Truth is intrinsically freeing; but only by obedience and adherence to the truth, will it ever evolve into liberty.  It can be said that love is not the only thing which is sought for in all the wrong places: "If the SON therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."  Whole hosts of folks treat liberty just as trite, thinking that she can be conjured up at the recipe of religion or politic.  "While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage."  Religion and\or polling place however, is no good; for none other than the living SON OF GOD is able to make good on such a promise.  The look of faith frees, but it is the Law of GOD which liberates.

"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another."  The great seal of GOD'S genuine liberty is found in who (WHO) it serves.  Don't propose that you are liberated, while immersed in self, and an obvious slave to ego and pride.  Dress up sin or vice real nice if you will, and call it liberty; but that whore from grace will never pass herself off before HIM or Heaven.  The garment of real greatness, says Peter, is to be the servant of GOD.  If that be true, astounding will be an understatement, to describe a life transformed by real liberating freedom.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith CHRIST hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage."

"Our end in leaving our native country is not to gain riches and honor, but to singly this: to live wholly to the glory of GOD."
