All About You

November 29

“And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”  Luke 6:31

“This ‘Golden Rule’, is in reality, as much a GODLY indictment ...”

Natural man has made the teachings of the Sermon on the Mount mystical; turning them into so much religious liturgy and sacrament.  While it is true that the calls of CHRIST are transcendent, they are equally incumbent, and supernaturally practical, to the true child of GOD.  The truths taught in the Bible are not something to merely aspire to; but something to apply to, the shoe leather of our daily Christian lives.  The inspiration of Scripture is designed to foster spiritual aspiration; which begets a holy motivation; and in turn, produces personal application.  It is a fact; every infant is born a vain thing.  This natal narcissism feeds on itself, taking on a life of its own (literally); and is exacerbated by a culture of self indulgence on steroids.  Even here, in CHRIST’S teaching is the tacit, but tragic acknowledgement of our fallen state.  This ‘Golden Rule’, is in reality, as much a GODLY indictment as it  is an admonition.  Here “ye … you” are mentioned first, as recognition of what is obvious in Heaven, albeit strangely denied among men.  “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so them …”  JESUS commands you to consider how: ”you” wish to be treated in considering how to treat others, because: ”you” are the standard bearer of affection to: ”you”.  HIS teaching comes down where we live … and love, we might say.  You can shrug off the points of HIS sermon as dreamy and impractical if you choose; but you are none the less accountable as a result.

“Looking unto JESUS the AUTHOR and FINISHER of our faith …”  The anecdote for the incurable mirror fetish ”you” hold, is a fresh focus on HIM WHO was selfless unto the death of the cross.  You have to become the conduit, instead of the conductor, if others are to be loved in obedience to this command from CHRIST.

“MASTER, which is the great commandment in the law?  JESUS said unto him, thou shalt love the LORD thy GOD with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
