Your Prescription is Ready

November 27

“THY mercy O LORD, is in the heavens …”  Psalm 36:5

“… it is here, face down in the stench of your arrogance, where the view up is the clearest”

Mercy is a prescription filled only by the Great PHYSICIAN from HIS dispensary in Heaven.  “But GOD, WHO is rich in mercy, for HIS great love wherewith HE loved us.”  It comes by request, and then is filled with inexpressible care and love.  Mercy is the only known anti-body for the “the body of this death” to which each of us were born ... and GOD, in HIS infinite wisdom, has put HIS mercy in a place that we can not reach to taint or corrupt.  “… have preached the gospel unto you with the HOLY GHOST sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.”  The angels know nothing of it; and though Satan is aware of mercy, it is conceptual to him, not experiential, nor will it ever be.  GOD alone holds sole discretion on the dispensing of humanity’s most needed, and yet, least sought after cure, for what truly ails us.  “The earth, O LORD, is full of THY mercy:” You would think that as rare as it is in testimony, there is a shortage; but this does not bear out in Scripture.  “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because HIS compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is THY faithfulness.”  In fact, just the opposite is true, with mercy falling daily like manna to the supply of any and all who will avail themselves of it.  “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”  Mercy doubles throughout the Bible as the valet, to drive the vehicle of our decadence to sin’s lot; and the loyal escort of GOD, to usher us safe and sound into HIS presence.  “For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is HIS mercy toward them that fear HIM.”  The dearth of mercy we perceive about our world today can best be explained by the associated lack of fear we hold toward the LORD.  “… according to HIS mercy HE saved us”  Mercy mixes with pride, like oil with water; thus that mercy which saves, proves itself eternally elusive to the one who has no humility for it.

“Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief … Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first JESUS CHRIST might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on HIM to life everlasting.”  It wasn’t education, power, or social status which turned Saul of Tarsus into Paul the Apostle; it was the pure mercy of GOD that struck his pride to the ground, and forever broke him of kicking “against the pricks”.  Look lateral till you lose your sight, but it is here, face down in the stench of your arrogance, where the view up is the clearest, and the mercy of GOD comes within grasp.

“For THY mercy is great above the heavens: and THY truth reacheth unto the clouds.”

"... as the long night of paganism descends on Western nations, we as believers are afforded an even greater opportunity to share the faith that burns within us.  Therefore, we must not yield to discouragement, even when everything we cherish appears to be eroding.  GOD is in control, and HE can bring triumph out of tragedy."
