The POTENTATE

November 17

“The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: HE turneth it whithersoever HE will."  Proverbs 21:1

"The one great example of full surrender ... is JESUS CHRIST."

Why is this so difficult to comprehend given its dominance throughout Holy Writ?  Though neither sovereign, nor sovereignty, is used anywhere in our English Bible, the doctrine of it, as it pertains to GOD, has become a dirty one to many Christians.  From created to related, any and all dealings we have had, or ever will have with HIM, are rooted in HIS genesis.  The child has no choice on whether to be conceived or not; but yet our religious day is fraught with the notion that all of life and death hinges with us.  I fully expect eternity to reveal that HIS sovereign will is both comprehensive and ultimate.  Don't confuse the DIVINE with destiny though, our embrace of HIS PERSON, or the lack thereof, is the flywheel which drives HIS sovereign determination for us.  We sing of HIS majesty, preach of HIS omnipotence, pray our pompous ditties, and yet live day to day in practical wonderment as to whether HE is able deliver on HIS promises.  "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand."  At the end of the day, WHO HE is, and what HE says, will be ignored to our own peril and destruction, if persisted upon.  Don't dither with trying to defend HIM, HE will indeed prove HIMSELF a potent POTENTATE to all who try to deny HIM.

"Then the king said unto me, for what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the GOD of heaven."  How many are the days ill spent, soliciting solely at the throne of men? ... what a waste!  "Then saith Pilate unto HIM, speakest THOU not unto me? Knowest THOU not that I have power to crucify THEE, and have power to release THEE?  JESUS answered, thou couldest have no power at all against ME, except it were given thee from above ..."  To fully understand and enfold HIS sovereignty, is to accept without question, what and where it ultimately leads us to.  "FATHER, if THOU be willing, remove this cup from ME: nevertheless not MY will, but THINE, be done."  The one great example of full surrender to full sovereignty is JESUS CHRIST.

"For it is GOD which worketh in you both to will and to do of HIS good pleasure."

For Love of Country
Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)
(German philosopher)
"The existence of the Bible, as a book for the people, is the greatest benefit which the human race has ever experienced.  Every attempt to belittle it is a crime against humanity."
