Delighted to Know YOU

November 12

"... they that deal truly are HIS delight."  Proverbs 12:22

"The truth which delights is passive in voice, but active in practice.

Having a life that pleases the LORD is not as complex as we sometimes make it out to be.  "such as are upright in their way are HIS delight."  Simply put, HE is delighted when HIS children do what HE commands, and refrain from what HE forbids.  "For I delight in the law of GOD after the inward man:"  In all our endeavors toward this goal, we must remember that the entirety of  HIS delight is inextricably yoked to HIS truth.  "Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice ..."  The truth which delights is passive in voice, but active in practice.  "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."  It is not enough to know the truth, or even speak the truth; it has to be dynamic, and not static, if it is to be of the delightful vein.  To many in our world, truth is an abstract concept, frustrating and elusive, even downright maddening.  There is an increasing trend to just opt out of the notion that it exists altogether, and declare with the infidels: "what is truth?"  This neo-antinomianism is on the move today feeding not just off of the aforementioned frustrations; but perpetuates itself on the sinful bent of men who live to love and practice a lie.

We however, who not only know the truth, but the nativity of it, are able to nurture its delight in the following ways:

  • We delight HIM when we worship sincerely: "... but the prayer of the upright is HIS delight."

  • We delight HIM when we weigh all things justly: "... but a just weight is HIS delight."

  • We delight HIM when we hold to HIS truth faithfully: "I will delight myself in THY statutes:"

  • We delight HIM when we yield to HIS will entirely: "I delight to do THY will, O my GOD:"

  • "For then shalt thou have thy delight in the ALMIGHTY ..."  And lastly, we delight HIM when HE HIMSELF becomes our delight.  The genuinely born again understand that delight is reciprocal, and are thus delighted to know HIM.

"Delight thyself also in the LORD ..."

For Love of Country
Robert E. Lee (1807-1870)
(General of the Confederate Army)
"Let us pray for ourselves, that we may not lose the word 'concern' out of our Christian vocabulary.  Let us pray for our nation.  Let us pray for those who have never known JESUS CHRIST and redeeming love, for moral forces everywhere, for our national leaders.  Let prayer be our passion.  Let prayer be our practice."
