Veteran's Day

November 11

“Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our GOD: ..."  2 Samuel 10:12

"Herein lies the distinction between conscript and convert."

Since the dawn of all that GOD has given, HIS enemies have wearied themselves to take ... initially by guile, but eventually through force if necessary.  "... SIR, didst not THOU sow good seed in THY field?  from whence then hath it tares?  HE said unto them, an enemy hath done this."  GOD gave man a garden of innocence, Satan stole it away in sin.  GOD gave Abraham a promise of land, and to this day it is in turmoil.  GOD gave Moses the Law, and it is forbidden in our public forum by the very ones sworn to uphold it.  GOD gave woman to man in blissful marriage, and yet the perversion of the sodomite agenda marches on.  GOD gave government to defend and protect, but today it insists to defile and provide.

"... as CAPTAIN of the host of the LORD am I now come."  The Christian's true COMMANDER IN CHIEF doesn't reside in a White House, but HE will soon ride back to take the field of battle on a White Horse (cf. Revelation 19:11).  "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:"  Thus the front we fight is not just on a personal, regional, national, or even international scale; it is all encompassing, and creational in scope and nature, for the war room with which we contend is of another dimension.  "Is there not a cause ..."  Ours is not a crusade of culture, it is a cause for CHRIST.  It is won at the priority of the gospel, not the point of the gun; a war for the souls of men, not their honor or geography.  "These all died in faith ... and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth ... But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly:"  Yet having won their soul, their honor turns to humility, and their geography to pilgrimage.  Herein lies the distinction between conscript and convert.

"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of JESUS CHRIST.  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please HIM WHO hath chosen him to be a soldier."  Many a brave soldier of HIS cross has gone before us, and now comprise the noble veterans of this cause.  "And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth."   The day these great Vets of faith celebrate, is now for them eonian in scope and wonder.

"Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy GOD, HE it is that doth go with thee; HE will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."

(report of Mr. Meacham of the House Judiciary Committee)
"In this age there can be no substitute for Christianity: that, in its general principles, is the great conservative element on which we must rely for the purity and permanence of free institutions.  That was the religion of the founders of the republic, and they expected it to remain the religion of their descendants.  There is a great and very prevalent error on this subject in the opinion that those who organized this Government did not legislate on religion."
