Three Bear Theology

May 28

"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with JESUS."  Acts 4:13

"What would it take to transform two cowards for CHRIST, and set them out to turn the world upside down?"

What would it take to transform two cowards for CHRIST, and set them out to turn the world upside down?  "The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion."  What would compel these two disciples, who just weeks earlier, had fled persecution, to now rejoice in it?  "... and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of JESUS, and let them go.  And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for HIS name."

Growth in HIS grace and knowledge will forever be held in low esteem by an erudite generation too smart for GOD.  Much to my dismay though, is the antithesis of Acts 4:13, occurring right before our very eyes within much of what professes to be Christianity.  Learned and Biblically educated men are evidencing they have been everywhere, save with JESUS!  We have ice breakers, quips, anecdotes, clever stories, and tear jerking illustrations.  In support of all that, we also offer shallow, impractical teaching; with the dead pulpits and baby Christians to prove it.  "All scripture is given by inspiration of GOD, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"  What should be to our sanctified chagrin, and this not isolated to the main line and evangelical, are sermons of the gifted, which smack more of ‘Little Bo Peep’ than the LAMB OF GOD.  There is a 'Three Bear Theology' loose in our churches where preaching that is too hot or too cold is passed over in lieu of the last bowl, lukewarm and just right to suit almost any spiritual palate (cf. Revelation 3:15-16).

"That the man of GOD may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."  The Scriptures are intended to profit a life into which HE has made a horrible, bloody investment; and given that price, HE deserves a dividend!  Go on in ignorance of this world's foolish denial of CHRIST; staying mindful that HIS Word is able to direct, correct, and perfect the man of GOD for the work of GOD.  When railed against for your ignorance, count it all joy for the company you keep ... and where adversity is entirely absent, do some personal investigation.

"Yea, and all that will live godly in CHRIST JESUS shall suffer persecution."
