"He that hath the SON hath life; and he that hath not the SON OF GOD hath not life."  1 John 5:12

"John describes for us ... the ultimate of the haths versus the hath-nots ..."

What John describes for us here is the ultimate of the haths versus the hath-nots; and it doesn't get any plainer than this!  Every person, whether they admit it or not, holds a spiritual portfolio.  "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no GOD" ...and those who would boast of their atheism merely betray self as their own pitiful savior.  That notion is powerfully ignorant, for even the Devil himself can't get his church to buy into that.  James tells us, regarding the acknowledgment of CHRIST that: "... the devils also believe, and tremble."  They are, however, busily usurping GOD'S rightful place, and blinding foolish men to the truth.  "If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine" ...this invitation, though flatly rejected by JESUS, is yet open to lesser men; who presently come in droves, falling at Satan's feet, and by willful choice make him their eternal investment strategist.

"But as many as received HIM, to them gave HE power to become the sons of GOD, even to them that believe on HIS NAME:"  Take heed here, for to just acknowledge HIM is insufficient to jump one from the "hath not" camp; HE must be received, and that, on HIS terms, not ours.  "He that believeth on the SON hath everlasting life:"  This is not complicated at all, but a belief that saves undoes the curse of GOD, and thus frames the profoundest thing ever known to a man.  Belief in believing has no saving virtue; and it is not enough to simply acquiesce to the fact that HE exists; HE must be acquired by a belief spawned in faith.  Belief acknowledges the historical fact of HIS life, faith asserts HIS pre-historical role as CREATOR, GOD, and SAVIOR; and is further assured HIS existence was not snuffed out at Calvary.  Belief will endure HIM, faith will embrace HIM!  Belief will celebrate Bethlehem in self-indulgence; faith will go on to Golgotha in self-denial.  Is your belief really born of faith, or stillborn, only to die one day lifeless, because you hath not the SON?

"... and he that believeth not the SON shall not see life; but the wrath of GOD abideth on him.
