Good Reason to Live

May 17

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: ..."  Isaiah 1:18

"The grossest misperception is that GOD somehow reasons from a position of weakness or impasse."

Generally speaking, we are a close minded race, and perhaps no more so, than in matters of eternal significance.  Feeling a bit put out by GOD (because we were back in Eden), a stubborn wrong headedness commands our faculties.  This goes far beyond being set in our ways; for sin makes us spiritually mad, blinding all true reason.  "If GOD will not withdraw HIS anger ... How much less shall I answer HIM, and choose out my words to reason with HIM?"  Just watch and you'll see that pride digs every foxhole of fatalism and self pity!  CHRIST did not die to negotiate a truce with sin, HE died to best it.  What is so unreasonable about missing death and gaining life, or robbing damnation of your soul at the gun of grace?

"... HE hath made HIM to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in HIM."  Surely it is unheard of, that a member of the judiciary would reconsider a capitol punishment verdict, and come to prison seeking pardon for the condemned; and if it did occur, even that would fail to accurately picture what CHRIST did for us.  "For GOD sent not HIS SON into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through HIM might be saved ... but he that believeth not is condemned already,"  JESUS the JUDGE, comes to our death row, reasoning with every sinner, to offer salvation's pardon, made possible only because HE took our place.  Most sit stiff-necked in their cell, staunchly illogical, with a demonic sense of accomplishment, choosing to take death like a man.  That is when the unreason of sin tips to insane!

"I am HE that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."  The grossest misperception is that GOD somehow reasons from a position of weakness or impasse.  HE does not! ... but rather comes to the table wearing a vesture crimson with HIS OWN blood, to offer a peace accord as VICTOR over sin, death, and Hell.  Those who dissent to this eternal logic, leave that table with this ultimatum:  "But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."  This is most reasonable to any who will lay aside their proud armor, and step humbly through the bars of their personal prison of sin into the arms of a loving SAVIOR.

"... though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

For Love of Country
John Adams
(to his wife Abigail regarding the Declaration of Independence, July 3, 1776)
"I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival.  It ought to be commemorated, as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to GOD ALMIGHTY."
