The Vanity of Humanity

May 14

"The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and HE knoweth them that trust in HIM."  Nahum 1:7

"... be mindful and fearless, knowing that your FORTRESS is a mobile ONE:"

A wise old preacher once stated that every person is either coming into trouble, in it now, or coming out, soon to cycle back through.  "... man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward."  The truth about trouble is troubling, especially when viewed accurately, and as an inescapable part of our lives.  "... for trouble is near" ... and it is no respecter of persons, falling on the just and the unjust; thus the manner in which we deal with it is critical to our victory as a child of GOD.

"GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."  When it comes to relief, there is only one viable source.  Seek the clinical all you want, but it will turn into the balm of contempt. "Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man."  When all is spent on the foolish physicians of the mind; help will turn to regret, for the troubled refused to trust solely in HIM.  "Trust in HIM at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before HIM: GOD is a refuge for us."   Why do we wallow in the waste of humanity's vanity, until hope is on its hands and knees, groping for HIS garment in the busy crowd?  "... that they might only touch the hem of HIS garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole."

A strong hold is impregnable; a port in a storm, perhaps, but more than that.  "Be THOU my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: THOU hast given commandment to save me; for THOU art my rock and my fortress."   Remember, our refuge is not in a place, but in a PERSON: "The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble."  In a real sense, the child of GOD is a refugee of sin, and its damning trouble in a world overrun with it.  Were it not for the "secret place of the MOST HIGH", we would be easily swept away in trouble's flood (cf. Isaiah 59:19).  Take every foray HE has commanded back into this world of trouble; and in doing so, be mindful and fearless, knowing that your FORTRESS is a mobile ONE: "lo, I am with you alway ..."

"I will say of the LORD, HE is my refuge and my fortress: my GOD; in HIM will I trust."
