Standing Room Only

May 12

"Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our GOD, and set a watch against them day and night ..."   Nehemiah 4:9

"Scripture never calls the saint to error on the side of caution ..."

The seat you're in is always the poorest one in the house; but the last thing we'll do is admit we cannot see.  It is far more comfortable to assume what is, and presume on GOD, than to trust HIM now.  "And call upon ME in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify ME."  Faith must be worked out with fear and trembling on the vertical, when all is frightful on the horizontal.  "Nevertheless" ... always refuses to fret!  Be assured that prayer trumps panic, and watching wipes out worry.  "... the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."  Faith is not oblivious to the facts, but it faces them in the SPIRIT, not the flesh.  Nehemiah's words here are not a reflection of fatalism; but rather, the rally cry of a leader to: "take unto you the whole armour of GOD, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."  The victorious in CHRIST, will arrive at every test of faith to standing room only!  Perhaps it was this very account in Nehemiah, that the writer of Hebrews had in mind, when he penned these words of testimony about a people who: "... out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens."  Coward and Christian should never be juxtaposed as simile; but there are those who flee at the sound of the soldiers steps.  Still others, more subtle at conceding defeat, are asleep at Gethsemane's switch.  Most dumbfounding however, are those who side with the Praetorians of Golgotha, and bid us to help guard an empty tomb.

"... and GOD had brought their counsel to nought"  Scripture never calls the saint to error on the side of caution, but to: "... endure hardness, as a good soldier of JESUS CHRIST."  This can only be accomplished as we are: "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the SPIRIT, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; ..."

"But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."

"There is no structural organization of society which can bring about the coming of the Kingdom of GOD on earth, since all systems can be perverted by the selfishness of man."
