The Lone Throne

March 25

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."  Hebrews 4:16

"Men hold to thrones of race, HIS instead is 'the throne of grace'."

A throne is an intimidating thing.  It symbolizes power, authority, and sovereignty; and yet throughout the ages, men have abused their thrones, allowing its status to go to their heads.  This KING JESUS, however, took HIS throne to heart.  Men hold to thrones of race, HIS instead is "the throne of grace".  Even in the freest of dominions, one would dare to come boldly to the throne, and if so, at tremendous risk of life or liberty.  But this throne is different, the palace is open, and the subjects invited, even compelled to come.

"Looking unto JESUS the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before HIM endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of GOD."  Have you ever seriously considered the barbarism surrounding this "throne of grace"?  Pilate's Praetorian hosted the party,  the Via Delarosa was the path of ascension, and Calvary the place of coronation.  "Then the soldiers of the governor took JESUS into the common hall, and gathered unto HIM the whole band of soldiers.  And they stripped HIM, and put on HIM a scarlet robe.  And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon HIS head, and a reed in HIS right hand: and they bowed the knee before HIM, and mocked HIM, saying, Hail, KING of the Jews!  And they spit upon HIM, and took the reed, and smote HIM on the head.  And after that they had mocked HIM, they took the robe off from HIM, and put his own raiment on HIM, and led HIM away to crucify HIM."
Then as now: "HE is despised and rejected of men; a MAN of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from HIM; HE was despised, and we esteemed HIM not."
Men brashly estimate HIS throne as democratic, but it is not, it is Theocratic ...  and HE rules this throne alone!  Fools who choose to opt HIM out of their lives will shun mercy and forsake grace (cf. Revelation 20:11-15),but they shall never opt HIM from HIS office:
"But unto the SON HE saith, THY throne, O GOD, is for ever and ever: ..."

"... a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of THY kingdom."  Is the righteous sceptre of GOD to dip and beckon unrighteous men to "come boldly"?  Yes, yes! ... A thousand times yes, so long as said sceptre is held in HIS nail pierced hand.  Dear sinner, are you in "need" of "grace" and "mercy"?

"That being justified by HIS grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

"The religion of JESUS CHRIST ... not only solicits the grave attention of all, to whom its doctrines are presented, but it demands their cordial belief as a matter of vital concernment.  These are no ordinary claims; and it seems hardly possible for a rational being to regard them with even a subdued interest; much less to treat them with mere indifference and contempt."
