Spit Out the Crook

March 21

“Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; ..."  Jonah 1:13

"Many a modern day sympathizer blunders boldly into Heaven's woodshed ..."

Do you ever find yourself playing the role of rookie providence ... determined to mediate between GOD and the subject of HIS chastening?  "Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."  An ungodly chivalry comes over sinners hearts when they view one of their own in deep, and at the mercy of GOD.  The oblivious noble never give up easy; and though Jonah surrendered in verse 12, his traveling companions chose to row on.  "A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again."  Can we not accept the anecdote for 'bleeding heart' syndrome as the cross of CHRIST.  Most, if not all, of our besetting weight and sin could be laid aside if those around us would cease returning them to us.  Many a modern day sympathizer blunders boldly into Heaven's woodshed with good intention, yet ill in prayer.  "... There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it."  The willfully disobedient child of the FATHER introduces strife into the family, and with it the sure chastening it deserves.  The wise sibling may choose to watch and learn, but he interferes at the risk of similar peril.  "He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears."  Sound judgment and discretion are in order if you intend on helping those around you.  Be prayerful, because if their trouble: "... be of GOD, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against GOD."

If the backslidden beg to go overboard, don't row to retrieve them, let GOD dispatch the rescue vessel of HIS choosing to the sight of their shipwreck.  "Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah."  A few days at sea, in salvage, has a marvelous way of exercising the rebel child to his senses.  Fret not, at the port of GOD'S will, the fish will spit out the crook who's robbed HIM of HIS glory.

"And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land."
