The Time of Day

June 24

"... behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."   2 Corinthians 6:2

"The prevailing mindset is that HE sits on the edge of HIS throne, with all of creation at a hush ..."

The great catch word in Christianity is "now"! ... For there is no guarantee of endless extensions, when it comes to the grace of GOD.  "Again, HE limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear HIS voice, harden not your hearts."  It is never optional when the LORD commands or instructs; nor is it discretionary when HIS SPIRIT illumines some portion of HIS Word to our mind and heart.  Thus to say that Heaven's salvation is a limited time offer, is entirely tenable from Scripture.  HE expects to be obeyed, and by simple virtue of WHO HE is, that should not seem too 'out of the box'.

"To preach the acceptable year of the LORD."  In the initial stage of GOD engaging us, the path appears wide, and urgency is at a low ebb.  "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."  Soon however, the seasons change, and the winds of grace take on a new direction toward our life.  "And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come Felix trembled, and answered, go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee."  The seas suddenly become choppy, and the waves increase; all by design and intended of HIM, to push the debris of our shipwrecked soul toward the shores of salvation.

"Seek ye the LORD while HE may be found, call ye upon HIM while HE is near:"  Our world teems with lost souls who refuse GOD the time of day; those who arrogantly demand their own timetable; insisting they will let HIM know, if they ever choose to change that.  "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."  The prevailing mindset is that HE sits on the edge of HIS throne, with all of creation at a hush, waiting on lil' ol' me to be willing to turn from my sin ... HE is not!  The facts of Scripture declare emphatically that HE, not we, is sovereign.  'There is no time, like the present' ... frames an excellent, Biblical cliché; and especially as it pertains to salvation, the message is: do it "now".

"And they told him, that JESUS of Nazareth passeth by.  And he cried, saying, JESUS, THOU Son of David, have mercy on me."

For Love of Country
Samuel Adams (August 2, 1776)
(upon signing a parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence)
"We have this day restored the SOVEREIGN to WHOM all men ought to be obedient.  HE reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let HIS Kingdom come."
