The Divine Incline

June 12

"I have inclined mine heart to perform THY statutes alway, even unto the end."  Psalms 119:112

"The physics of destiny are really very simple; we move the way we lean."

There is nothing static regarding our progression toward eternity.  "But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward."  The physics of destiny are really very simple; we move the way we lean.  Conviction of sin is not intended as a counterpoise; but given rather to cut the legs out from under its power, producing repentance and thus creating a new creature in CHRIST.  You are at the apex of delusion when you seek after an equilibrium of sin and saint; mark it down, one will out lean the other and tip the scale.  Your Christianity is intensely personal; but only powerful, as you die to self and cast yourself entirely upon HIM.

"For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I."  Salvation is the sweetest thing I know, but what a conundrum between CHRIST and my carnality.  "I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.  For I delight in the law of GOD after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members."  Once redeemed however, and spiritual sights are installed, HE inclines us to the incline of obedient faith; all the while honing our focus toward the mark: "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of GOD in CHRIST JESUS."  The recipients of saving grace find a blessed ballast in the presence of HIS HOLY SPIRIT.  JESUS said: "I will pray the FATHER, and HE shall give you another COMFORTER, that HE may abide with you for ever;" ... and what an assurance comes from the crush of HIS communion, and the humility of utter dependence.  "Because HE hath inclined HIS ear unto me, therefore will I call upon HIM as long as I live."

Oh to GOD that this benediction of Solomon be incorporated into our personal creed of living faith:

"The LORD our GOD be with us, as HE was with our fathers: let HIM not leave us, nor forsake us: That HE may incline our hearts unto HIM, to walk in all HIS ways, and to keep HIS commandments, and HIS statutes, and HIS judgments, which HE commanded our fathers."

"Surely seaman are worthy to appear in your 'Cloud of Witnesses'.  Not only did our SAVIOR consort with the seaman of Galilee, but there are many examples in history of noted naval heroes who exhibited the highest Christian virtues.  I wish to be counted among this great company of believers in the divinity of CHRIST, and in the inspiration of all Scripture."
