Examples to Emulate

July 7

"Look on me, and do likewise: ... as I do, so shall ye do."  Judges 7:17

"The greatest among CHRIST'S followers are marked by the cross they shoulder ..."

Is your Christianity worthy of emulation?  It is not your estimation of your leadership, but your following, which determines the answer to that question.  "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of CHRIST."  Our proximity to JESUS CHRIST is the prime determinate to being an effective example; and GOD will be the ultimate judge of whether our faith was worth following.  "Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is."

None of us are an island to ourselves; and consciously or not, in some way we each seek to emulate one or more about us in this life.  Likewise, each of us become examples to others, often unwittingly, either for good or bad.  "Then said JESUS unto HIS disciples, If any man will come after ME, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow ME."  The elite of academia slight themselves, filling their transcripts with science of every sort, seeking a following, and a better life.  However, if riches profit nothing, and terrestrial knowledge is vain, as the Scripture surely warns; at the end of the day, where will that example lead?  "For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you."  The greatest among CHRIST'S followers are marked by the cross they shoulder, and the bowl they bear; not by the diploma they earn, or the portfolio they fill.

"... lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief."  As a follower, beware of who you follow, for bad examples abound in this world of guile and intrigue.  As a leader, don't get hung up on numbers, remember JESUS had but twelve, and one of them was a devil.  By those who continue however, our world is yet being turned upside down.

"For even hereunto were ye called: because CHRIST also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow HIS steps:"

For Love of Country
Jonathan Trumbull  (1710-1785)
(British Governor of Connecticut turned Revolutionary sympathizer)
"In this day of calamity, to trust altogether to the justice of our cause, without our utmost exertion, would be tempting Providence ... March on!  This shall be your warrant: Play the man for GOD, and for the cities of our GOD.  May the LORD of Hosts, the GOD of the armies of Israel, be your CAPTAIN, your LEADER, your CONDUCTOR, and SAVIOUR."

(upon sending reinforcements to march at General Washington's plea)
