"And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?"  Genesis 25:32

"Pragmatism, as it relates to the spiritual, can be a harmful thing."

Pragmatism, as it relates to the spiritual, can be a harmful thing.  Here, the short-sightedness of Esau on earth, turned to his blindness regarding Heaven.  "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin ..."  The first death is as common as birth and promulgated since sin.  Though it be the dread of those dead in their trespass against  GOD, it holds no power over the true saint.  "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."  It is this "second" funeral which should draw our attention, and become the focus of our avoidance. Many however, close their eyes with the skewed sense of sin's value system; only to open them in Hell, with a clinched fist full of the same nothing they died holding.  "... thus Esau despised his birthright."  Esau was of that ilk, who for the soup of the day, sold his soul. "Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.  For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears."

If you have become a joint heir with JESUS CHRIST, by virtue of being saved, that is significant!  "For ye know the grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, that, though HE was rich, yet for your sakes HE became poor, that ye through HIS poverty might be rich."  Just one honest glimpse of an impoverished SAVIOR (and the cause of HIS squalor) will be enough to trade your beads of religious hope for the riches HE offers.  "What is the ALMIGHTY, that we should serve HIM? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto HIM?" ... but if you are into this 'GOD thing' for what you can get out of it; you will find your profit to dwindle to nothing one day on the dry death bed of your pseudo-faith.  "... the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field."  If though, you have discovered the priceless wealth of redemption in HIM, the fire sale of your prior destruction, will become news spread abroad.  Take the opposite path of Esau, and in the great garage sale of grace, settle for nothing less than the precious blood of CHRIST as the asking price for your eternal soul.

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

"A democracy -- that is a government of all the people, by all the people, for all the people; of course, a government of the principles of eternal justice, the unchanging law of GOD; for shortness' sake I will call it the idea of Freedom."
