The Trip of Tribulation

July 21

"In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: GOD also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him. Ecclesiastes 7:14

"The practical skills of all this is commensurate to our love for GOD ..."

How mindless and carefree are the joyful days when all is well ... the house, the car, the career, the family, are all in sync.  The bills are paid, and your healthy, wealthy, and wise ... at least from all outward perception.  Let the winds shift however, and when the storms roll in, the SOS goes out over every frequency.  A heart of faith for GOD is never proven in Goshen; it must come out into the wilderness if the test results are to be credible.  Who can't walk with the LORD when HIS paths lead along sunny beaches as far as the eye can see?  But let the sun set, the tide go out, and an eye with a name approach; and suddenly we board up our lives to any and all, including GOD.  We say that we trust HIM, we sing, and pray, and preach the same; but the metal of our profession is proven as Hurricane Trouble passes over the island of our existence.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love GOD ..."  The practical skills of all this is commensurate to our love for GOD, which is incubated, hatched, and fledged near the warm fires of trial.  It is there, that faith grows strong and true; but only if exercised:  "... to them who are the called according to HIS purpose."  Has it ever occurred to you that GOD knows what HE is doing?  "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"  That is readily affirmed by us in the absence of pressure; but all too often, the recognition that HE is sovereign in love, is tenuous at best when the deal is on the line.

"Ye ... have seen the end of the LORD ..."  To both lost and saved, the LORD engineers the fronts of adversity to draw men to HIMSELF.  Those looking beyond HIM, will discover a black hole of help for their troubles.  All roads do not lead to Heaven; but they do, however, arrive at one of HIS two thrones.  There, in "the end", the faithful will find their FRIEND, and the fearful will find their JUDGE.

"Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of GOD."

For Love of Country
Abraham Lincoln  (1809-1865)
(16th President of the United States)
"Our reliance is in the love of liberty which GOD has planted in us.  Our defense is in the spirit which prized liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands everywhere.  Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism at your own doors."
