Once Upon A Time

July 15

"For as ye in times past have not believed GOD, yet have now obtained mercy ..."  Romans 11:30

"... are you hoping for a second opinion, some eternal court of appeal ...?"

The tales of my youth will always hold a special place in my heart.  I still remember the exciting journeys of imagination and intrigue while sitting in the living room, or classroom, listening as someone would read aloud the old tales of fact or fiction.  'How quickly we forget' ... is not a verse of Scripture, but it is, however, a sad testament to our character.  Thus the Bible speaks often of the art of reminisce … i.e: the constant provocation to remember the goodness of the LORD, and from whence HE hath brought us.  "Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh ... That at that time ye were without CHRIST ... having no hope, and without GOD in the world:"  An honest and healthy recollection of the past, is pure fuel, for an honest and healthy faith in the present.

Once Upon a Time, Paul writes, we were faithless.  Unbelief in the human heart is willful and perverse; not based on a lack of information, but contumacious, in the face of plain and evident truth.  It is nothing less than all out rebellion!  "Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others."  Out of our lusts, there must flow a denial of GOD, lest our conscience consume our lusts. The rise of Evolution, humanism, rationalism, liberalism, and the like are all attributable to this fast fact of our psyche. "Now the SPIRIT speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"

In regard to saving faith, are you hoping for a second opinion, some eternal court of appeal, which overrules THE ALMIGHTY, and awards you your sin?  Think about the absurdity of what that implies.  Even should I or another concur, you are pinning your entire hope for eternity on the whim of a sinner just like you!  "In hope of eternal life, which GOD, that cannot lie, promised before the world began ..."  Boil it all down, and the caboodle of your belief beyond the grave, is that GOD is a liar.

"Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great GOD and our SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST;"

For Love of Country
Calvin Coolidge  (1872-1933)
(30th President of the United States)
"They were intent upon establishing a Christian commonwealth in accordance with the principle of self-government.  They were an inspired body of men.  It has been said that GOD sifted the nations that HE might send choice grain into the wilderness ... Who can fail to see it in the hand of destiny?"
