Secret Ancient

July 13

"Why askest thou thus after MY NAME, seeing it is secret?"  Judges 13:18

"HE came ... to commend HIS love, not command HIS place"

The NAME of GOD is both obvious and incomprehensible, all at the same time.  Just as no man has seen GOD (in HIS glorious fullness), so neither has any man fully known the extent of all that the NAME of JEHOVAH entails.  "For MY thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways MY ways, saith the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are MY ways higher than your ways, and MY thoughts than your thoughts."  HE is GOD, and the simple virtue of WHO HE is, makes HIM inexplicable.  The religious opportunists who have canned HIM down through time, have it all wrong.  HE is not the flunky of their side show, nor the star of their 'B' movies, HE is GOD!  HE is WHO HE says HE is; but WHO HE says HE is, will never be grasped in full measure this side of Heaven ... and surely eternity will busy the saint with the breadth and depth of this pursuit.

"For unto us a CHILD is born, unto us a SON is given: and the government shall be upon HIS shoulder: and HIS NAME shall be called WONDERFUL, COUNSELLER, The MIGHTY GOD, The EVERLASTING FATHER, The PRINCE OF PEACE."  When GOD wanted to reveal HIMSELF to us, HE came humble and meek in a manger, to commend HIS love, not command HIS place: "... for I am meek and lowly in heart:" ... but tragically, even when HE came to HIS own, they refused to recognize HIM.  "JESUS saith unto him, have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known ME, Philip? He that hath seen ME hath seen the FATHER; and how sayest thou then, shew us the FATHER?"  Truly, all that we can know about HIM here is revealed in JESUS CHRIST (Colossians 2:9).

What is it that you want from GOD?  How much more could HE do to satisfy your queries regarding life and its aftermath?  The honest answer to this, from the hardened in sin, is nothing.  The natural man is not interested in the truth about the risen SON of GOD; but in replaying that inquisition scene of Pilate over and over, to crucify HIM afresh, in the vain attempt to squelch a conscience which cries foul against the soul.  'Too good to be to true' ... is not to be found in the vernacular of Heaven, but 'seeing is believing' is!

"... because thou hast seen ME, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."

For Love of Country
Andrew Jackson  (1767-1845)
(7th President of the United States)
"You have the highest of human trusts committed to your care.  Providence has showered on this favored land blessings without number, and has chosen you as the guardians of freedom, to preserve it for the benefit of the human race.  May HE WHO holds in HIS hands the destinies of nations, make you worthy of the favors HE has bestowed ..."

(Farewell Address, March 4, 1837)
