“JESUS saith unto them, come and dine …”  John 21:12

“... the example of CHRIST has always been hospitality toward the inhospitable:”

No greater invitation has ever been extended than that of sinful men to come and sup with Holy GOD.  To make this even more inconceivable, the direct context of this passage in John 21 is of the LORD making breakfast on the beach for HIS disciples … the very ones who had forsaken HIM, just days prior, in HIS darkest hour.  But praise be, the example of CHRIST has always been hospitality toward the inhospitable: “Then said HE also to him that bade HIM, when thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.  But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind”

Oh thank GOD that HE bids the hungry to come without delay.  “Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, come; for all things are now ready.   And they all with one consent began to make excuse.”   Though the meal is not mandatory, this is the one supper you don’t want to miss.  “Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger.”  Unto all the self righteous who spit out the gracious spoon fed manna of HIS gospel, HE warns of a time when those same table manners shall be turned back upon their head: “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of MY mouth.”  The famished of soul on the other hand, will discover a banquet spread with all the good things and more; prepared especially for you in the kitchen of all goodness.  “For HE satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”  At the end of the meal, there will be no famine of the faithful among those who will take their spot around HIS table. Go ahead, take up your basket and look for the leftovers as the manna you once only read of now falls all about you.

The two most operative words in all of Scripture are: ‘come’ and ‘go’.  ‘Come’ and dine, HE bids; and know that when it is time, ‘go’ boxes are in ample supply to share with every beggar in sin you encounter.

"So when they had dined, JESUS saith to Simon Peter … feed MY lambs.”
