Believing is Seeing

January 5

“I have set the LORD always before me: because HE is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.”  Psalm 16:8

“... CHRIST would not have us as much perceptive as HE would have us faithful.”

What a blessed thought to have the LORD ever before us.  You can mark it down, that any time we insist on seeing where we are going spiritually, we quickly lose sight of where we are headed.  “The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.”  Oh the haven of rest we find though, of having HIM in view, ever knowledgeable that HE shall not lead us astray.  “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”  ‘Seeing is believing’ … may be the mantra of the carnal man; but the antithesis holds true to the born again!  Of a truth, CHRIST would not have us as much perceptive as HE would have us faithful.

"Know now that GOD hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with HIS net.”  On that glorious day of your spiritual nativity, there came an all encompassing presence of GOD.  Now no matter where we be, if right with HIM, HE is afore, and aft, at our starboard, and our port.  HE is above and HE is below; and as the beloved Paul described to the heathen in Athens: “… in HIM we live, and move, and have our being.”  HE is simultaneously our point, rear guard, and both flanks; and within the sphere of HIS care, we shall not be moved.  “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and HIS children shall have a place of refuge.”  Who or what we set before us is a choice the LORD leaves to us.  The direction and destination that person or thing ultimately leads us to however, is out of HIS, and our hands, once we determine to follow.  There is widespread trepidation in our world amongst all those who have lost their way in the wilderness of sin; but not so with GOD’S child who will follow HIM without wavering.  “And it shall come to pass, while MY glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with MY hand while I pass by:”  It is impossible to fear when all we behold is viewed through the after burner of HIM WHO blazes our every trail.  “For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”  There is a holy, yet humble, bravado to the saint who will keep him\herself just back of the LORD.

“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.”

"May the same wonder-working DEITY, WHO long since delivering the Hebrews from their Egyptian oppressors planted them in the promised land, whose providential agency has lately been conspicuous in establishing these United States as an independent nation, still continue to water them with the dews of Heaven and to make the inhabitants of every denomination participate in the temporal and spiritual blessings of that people whose GOD is JEHOVAH."
