Thy Kingdom Come

January 14

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like …”  Matthew 13:44

“… look no further than the empty tomb of JESUS CHRIST to settle all queries”

While it may be dreamy to ponder the depth and breadth of this analogy of our LORD regarding what the kingdom is like; it is at the same time perilous to disregard its reality.  Note that CHRIST does not state that Heaven is like … but rather that: the kingdom of heaven is like.  It is vital in considering this, that we perceive the kingdom of heaven as indivisible from the PERSON WHO rules it.  It is also helpful to view the kingdom in tenses; past, present, and future, without beginning or end; three dimensions as infinite and eternal as the TRINITY.

  • The Past: “The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:”  With the three little words: “it is finished”; it began, and has grown to be this world’s only, and ultimate hope, to evade the penalty of death our sin deserves.  Nothing in all of history has ever germinated like the seed of HIS gospel.  This world’s vain religious systems may promise you the moon; but Bible Christianity holds all the heavens as the limit, and currently houses our FOUNDER as living proof of its validity.  “Another parable spake HE unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.”  One needs look no further than the empty tomb of JESUS CHRIST to settle all queries regarding the kingdom of heaven.

  • The Present: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.”  Diversity has its place in time’s investment strategy; but not so toward eternity.  You must decide where, and with whom (WHOM) you’ll invest your eternal soul.  “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:”  In this age of grace, the gospel net is as wide as the world; the LORD not willing that any should slip through and perish.  Sadly however, many a soul has swum upriver against the current of HIS love to spawn in their sin.  “For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.”   If caught up by HIM though, that catch comes with gainful employment in the gospel ministry while the present remains.

  •  The Future: “The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son …” The past and present aspects of the kingdom of heaven are tangible and undeniable.  The future is a little cloudier however, with only occasional glimpses from the Testaments; and when discovered, they defy our logic and imagination.  The danger, of course is to sit and ponder the third dimension while ignoring the first two; but the ONE WHO inhabits all three warns that Hell will be filled with those who decided to do just that.

THY kingdom come … is a present tense prayer of past promise and future implication.

“And he saith unto me, write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the LAMB.”
