Hot Pursuit

January 10

“And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.”  Judges 8:4

“The greatest impediment to endurance is the syndrome of self-pity.”

If you let your enemy go to fight another day; that is exactly what he will do.  Let personal evil escape and the result is equally predictable.  If you are unwilling to run sin into the ground, you can mark it down; sin will set out to ruin your life.  You must be of good courage here, for the same GOD WHO commissioned us for the battle will be faithful to finish the conquest if we will faint not.  Set the hounds of Heaven loose; cross over every obstacle; fight through every trial; and ride over every adversary until victory be yours. “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of GOD, and not of us.  We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body the dying of the LORD JESUS, that the life also of JESUS might be made manifest in our body.”

Remember the zeal of your calling dear Christian, which broke the pots, and gave the shout of confidence in HIM.  “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”  Keep at it then until every foe of sin resembles the two kings of Midian.  If you lead, the faint who follow, will pursue those who you are in pursuit of.  Stop for even a moment, and the sight of sin slips away over the horizon, and will soon stage its next ambush. Sit still long enough and your will, and the will of those you lead, will dissipate into spiritual disrepair, even to the point that you give up the chase altogether.  “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”  Pursue the outward man till he perish; that a living sacrifice might arise from the ashes to keep on for GOD.  “For consider HIM that endured such contradiction of sinners against HIMSELF, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.  Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”  The greatest impediment to endurance is the syndrome of self-pity.  Take a little Holy honey each day as the divinely prescribed elixir against evil.  Soon, the strength you gain will overtake all that opposes your LORD and you.

“And the people were faint … see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.”
