peace (pês) noun

1. The absence of war or other hostilities.

Though difficult to date with certainty, man's original peace with GOD was short-lived.  Obedience is always the term of peace with any authority; and grievous err at every level occurs when we hear, but fail to obey: "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."  The LORD said: "do not" yet Eve did,  Eve said: "do" so Adam did ... and peace was forfeited.  "Because the carnal mind is enmity against GOD: for it is not subject to the law of GOD, neither indeed can be." The longest running battle in history broke out that day in Eden and continues to the present.

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of CHRIST, who is the image of GOD, should shine unto them."  There is an insidious oblivion which is innate to sin's pride!  Truth is, men are fighting and dying in obstinacy against GOD all around us, as we deny that the war even exists.  It is no wonder we hide our cemeteries off of the beaten path.  In spite of what you may have heard at the funeral, or deluded yourself to believe out of emotion, the 'Dearly Departed' ... apart from saving faith in JESUS CHRIST, will never rest in peace, no matter how many oak trees shade their grave.  Isaiah writes: "There is no peace, saith my GOD, to the wicked."  In writing to Rome, Paul elaborates a bit further, when he identifies the underlying problem.  "And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of GOD before their eyes."  To the victor goes not only the spoils, but also the terms of peace; in spite of the fact that the most arrogant and obtuse sue for it, while insisting on a war footing of unrepentant sin.

Many sinners seek just enough peace in the vain attempt to appease GOD, but there is no piece of peace.  If this is you, a caveat is in order.  John the Revelator pens the following words to depict a soon time when GOD'S gracious offer of peace will forever be withdrawn.  "And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, ...

From cradle to grave, the ONE MEDIATOR of peace between GOD and man is HIS only begotten SON, JESUS "Glory to GOD in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."  The terms are set, the ink is dry, and CHRIST awaits your humble acknowledgement of what is nonnegotiable.
"

"And, having made peace through the blood of HIS cross, ..."

For Love of Country
Samuel Langdon (1723-1797)
(President of Harvard University; New Hampshire Statesman)
"We have rebelled against GOD.  We have lost the true spirit of Christianity, though we retain the outward profession and form of it ... By many, the Gospel is corrupted into a superficial system of moral philosophy, little better that ancient Platonism ... My brethren, let us repent and implore the Divine mercy.  Let us amend our ways and our doings ..."

(Delivered to the Provincial Congress of  Massachusetts, May 1775)
