Familiar Firemen

February 19

"And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD."  Numbers 26:61

"... who among us would have GOD to be just apart from mercy?"

How familiar are you with the 'Fire Codes' of Heaven?  Regarding absolutely everything, GOD is prescript, HIS Word exact.  Scripture is crystal clear on all things pertaining to life and godliness, and where there is ambiguity, it is self imposed. Men may feign ignorance, but that will prove to be at their own eternal peril.  "strange fire" is but a euphemism for my way ... as opposed to GOD'S way; and even the most microscopic deviation from Biblical instruction builds a fire unfamiliar to Heaven.  It would seem there are sufficient ensamples, (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:11; Romans 15:4) such as these two sons of Aaron,  to deter men from testing the LORD; but masses still enroll in the Strange Fire Academy of self-will with each succeeding generation.

To top that, there are those spiritual prigs who view GOD as harsh and narrow in HIS insistence to conformity, and HIS wrath as excessive when it is ignored.  The obvious reply to that is: who among us would have GOD to be just apart from mercy?  Truth is, all of us deserve the death of "strange fire", for failing the standard of righteous holiness ... for there are none who have offered acceptable fire here on this side of the altar.  "As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one: ... For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of GOD"

In both Testaments offerings are mandated, and the compliance optional; however the risks are high indeed when it comes to slipshod sacrifice.  With Nadab and Abihu, in but a moment, a full one-half of priestly ancestry vanished into the Hall of Shame.  Mark it down, and learn from these foolish lads that playing fast and loose with Divine commands is a deadly endeavor!  "For the wages of sin is death; ..."

How is your fire for GOD?  Are you prayerfully seeking the ignition of revival ... or are you a self-starter?

"And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD ... But unto Cain and to his offering HE had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.  And the LORD said unto Cain, why art thou wroth?  And why is thy countenance fallen?  If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?  And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door ..."
