The Meat of the Matter

December 8

“JESUS saith unto them, MY meat is to do the will of HIM that sent ME, and to finish HIS work”  John 4:34

“… we are not 'born again' with a silver spoon … but out into an orchard of opportunity”

What could those around you surmise by the activity surrounding your life?  “But JESUS answered them, MY FATHER worketh hitherto, and I work.”  For JESUS, the entirety of HIS sustenance was the summation of HIS FATHER’S will and work.  “For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to GOD from idols to serve the living and true GOD.”  For the truly saved, it is no different; we are not “born again” with a silver spoon in our mouth, but out into an orchard of opportunity to bear the fruit of men’s souls.  It has been said that: ninety percent of the work in the Church is done by ten percent of the Christians.  “For they that are such serve not our LORD JESUS CHRIST, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”  While doubtless there are pockets of, and occasions to, sloth among GOD’S people; the percentages are perhaps more indicative of tare and wheat, than they are of any widespread indolence among the genuinely redeemed.  “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on ME, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto MY FATHER.”  With redemption comes a high calling to employment in the faith.  The MASTER is patient as HE trains and develops; but holds little tolerance for the willfully remiss.  “My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy GOD?”  If you, as a Christian, find yourself bellied up to the bread of affliction, you can be certain your predicament is self-imposed!

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the LORD, and not unto men; knowing that of the LORD ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the LORD CHRIST.”  Ours is a work of another dimension; and though the laboratory is here, it is but an outpost of what is headquartered in Heaven.  All must be done in excellence, with no regard for the reward.  The pay scale is HIS, and our inheritance is secure in spite of any perceived setbacks of restitution we incur while here.  “I must work the works of HIM that sent ME, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”  Christianity is a family business; and if the blood of the BOSS now courses through your veins, you, like CHRIST, will set your sights upon HIS will and the finish of HIS work.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself ... We face arduous days that lie before us in the warm courage of national unity; with the clear consciousness of seeking old and precious moral values ... In this dedication of a nation we humbly ask the blessing of GOD."
