The Weigh of the Witness

December 7

“For GOD is my witness …”  Romans 1:9

"To testify in your own defense is the classic blunder of the ages”

The notion that GOD is watching our every move is intensely sobering to any thinking individual.  For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and HE pondereth all his goings.”  Beyond that is the fright that HE knows and weighs our ways; and the motives which move us.  “… the LORD weigheth the spirits.”  Our modus, and our operandi, are open and naked and bare … and as plain as day to HIM WHO knows no night (cf.  Hebrews 4:13).  “For HIS eyes are upon the ways of man, and HE seeth all his goings.”  There can be no guile with GOD, all we do, and all we think, and all we are, is as transparent as the streets we will one day walk upon.  “The SPIRIT itself beareth witness with our spirit … my conscience also bearing me witness in the HOLY GHOST.”  The fact of our faith, and the fruit of our labor, is not contingent on the words of our mouth; but on the affirmation of Heaven.  All that is admissible in HIS court, from within and from without, line up in harmony, to either testify for, or against us.  In every open and shut case, there is a clincher of a witness whose credibility and testimony is indisputable.  “JESUS CHRIST, WHO is the faithful WITNESS” … for the Christian, that WITNESS is also our COUNSELOR: “we have an ADVOCATE with the FATHER, JESUS CHRIST the righteous:”  Get some sanctified contempt for Satan and refuse to take the stand!  To testify in your own defense is the classic blunder of the ages, by all who now inhabit Hell.

“For HE hath made HIM to be sin for us, WHO knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of GOD in HIM.”  Though it be an irreconcilable scene, GOD indicts us in our sin, serves as our prosecutor, takes the stand against us, sits on the bench, declares us guilty, sentences us to die, comes to visit us on death row, pardons us, and takes our place, that HIS justice be served.  HE willingly subjected HIMSELF to the persecution of execution by the very mob of humanity HE sought to forgive.  If you are of the redeemed, eternity will prove far too short to fully gratify the ONE: “WHO gave HIMSELF for us.”

“Who is he that condemneth? It is CHRIST that died, yea rather, that is risen again, WHO is even at the right hand of GOD, WHO also maketh intercession for us.”
