Luxury Liner of Lies

December 21

“Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, “… because I did bear the reproach of my youth.”  Jeremiah 31:19

“At some point in the plunge however, comes CHRIST …”

The human saga is a train wreck in both its tenor and tragedy.  “… because I did bear the reproach of my youth.”  Every soul is born boiling down their mountainside out of control to the swift and certain destruction below.  “In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if GOD peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth”  To suggest that you are your own worst enemy is a partial assessment of the problem; but not entirely accurate.  Aboard this high speed rail of revolt against GOD, is the conductor of our fallen flesh, busily serving us the cocktails of blindness to detract from our view out the window; and the world our fireman, stoking the speed of our descent; with Satan, the engineer of our ultimate demise.  At some point in the plunge however, comes CHRIST into our personal car, the only BRAKEMAN able to break us loose from the rest of the train, and divert us to the tracks of grace.  “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation …”  If HE is acknowledged, the turn is made, and the murals of falsehood are removed from the windows for the first time, that we might truly see where we were headed apart from HIS last second salvation.  “I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto THY testimonies.”  There, just inches from the cliffs of Hell, we sit in the shambles of our luxury liner of lies, and are allowed to ponder what HE did for us.  “Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”  To all who take an honest look around, the repentance this scene produces is devastating enough to distill the entire mess into fuel for the trip home along the tracks of saving mercy back to GOD.  What a journey of joy, what a comfort to now know WHO conducts our lives.

“Turn us again, O GOD, and cause THY face to shine; and we shall be saved.”
