Phearless Phonies

“For GOD hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”   2 Timothy 1:7

“Everything surrounding GOD and HIS gospel is awesome in holiness”

The Bible doesn’t forbid us fear; but it does dictate the course it is to take in our lives, if it is to be turned to our advantage.  The contemporary ‘No Fear’ movement so popular in our midst is at best moronic, and absolutely baseless Scripturally.  “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save JESUS CHRIST, and HIM crucified.  And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.”  The widespread arrogance and cocky spirit so pervasive in the churches is attributable to this phony fearlessness we tout.  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom …”  If a man never fears GOD, that man cannot be saved; and if a saved man doesn’t hold to the fear of the LORD, he will be at best, a foolish Christian.  Everything surrounding GOD and HIS gospel is awesome in holiness; and they who will not be awestruck unto repentance by their sin in HIS presence, will one day be struck down in their sin from HIS presence; and sent to a devil's hell; where all the guile of the no-fear movement will dissipate in a wisp.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of GOD …”  All of this is to say that there is a spirit of fear loose in the world which is not of GOD.  The natural man fears seemingly everything but the ONE he should.  There is the fear of failure, the fear of relationships, the fear of disease, the fear of life, and the fear of death.  These, and all the phobias in between, are perfectly understandable and justifiable to the person who rejects the free gift of salvation his conscience is begging him to receive.  Sin, righteousness, and judgment are the eternal things CHRIST came to convince and convict the world of; and only the most foolhardy bravado ignores this.

“And I saw a great white throne, and HIM that sat on it, from WHOSE face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.”  The fearless who flee for their lives, will be but one in a crowd, on that horrible day of final reckoning.  All the ‘No Fear’ attire will be strangely absent as the line before HIM moves one by one to be judged, condemned, and cast to their second death in the lake of fire.  "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”  To the one however, who will direct his fear toward the LORD, a blessed paradox of faith overtakes him to stand firm against every foe and fiery trial.

“Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.”

"Let my neighbor once persuade himself that there is no GOD, and he will soon pick my pocket, and break not only my leg but my neck.  If there be no GOD, there is no law, no future account; government then is the ordinance of man only, and we cannot be subject for conscience sake."
