The Light of Darkness

“... the world passeth away, and the lust thereof.”   1 John 2:17

“We will readily affirm that the world is winding down, yet … all our lusts are ramping up.”

There is entropy at work on a global scale.  These inspired words of John are an undeniable fact of Scripture, and evidenced scientifically more and more with each passing day; but you couldn’t tell it by looking at most of us.  It is doubtless that our world is undergoing its death throes; but we, like Lot, have pitched our tent at the city limits of Sin, and wish to indulge ourselves of it until the very last second.  “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”  We know there is no tomorrow, as it pertains to the natural man, yet we live in virtual ignorance of our own knowledge.  We will readily affirm that the world is winding down, yet at the same time, all our lusts are ramping up.  What a messed up sight we must appear to the lost in town!  “… they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.”  The HOLY SPIRIT beckons us to pull up stakes, and separate to a safer distance; but we have driven our tent pegs all the way to bedrock.  Our flap is open and the bright lights of licentiousness pervade every corner of our abode.  The dark lies of sin illumine everything but our Bibles, and the path of righteousness we have left to arrive where we are at, apart from GOD.

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but MY words shall not pass away.”  The voices of the angelic messengers from distant pulpits past are drowned out by all the merriment at the foot of today’s Sinai.  The modern mega church of the living GOD is staging her coming out party while brazenly riding the very calf made of contraband earrings.  We eat, we drink, and we are merry … seemingly oblivious to the disdain of the DIVINE.  May the LORD grant us a reviving in these last days, and with it, a renewed world view consistent with HIS word.

“And GOD shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

"[Bad health has] intimated to me not to expect a long or healthy life, yet it may be better with me after some time tho I hardly dare expect it and therefore have little spirit and alacrity to set about any thing that is difficult in acquiring and useless in possessing after one has exchanged Time for Eternity."
