Don't Broke the Yoke

August 27

"Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility."  Proverbs 18:12

"... you must yoke yourself to your own hearse ..."

Out on the farm, plowing always precedes planting; and in the seedbed of human character, it follows suit that a breaking of the fallow ground must come first.  Honor is the most inflationary thing apart from the holes humility, and if need be, humiliation poke in our pride.  If left to us, we would all start at the top; but even those born with a 'silver CEO' in their mouth, will ultimately fail, if this promotional queue is usurped, and honor precedes humility.  "I die daily ..." If honor is ever to be legit in GOD'S eyes, you must yoke yourself to your own hearse, and pull it all the way to the gates of glory.  Remember, a yoke that is broke, makes for a runaway corpse ... most messy under any circumstances!

JESUS used a wedding to illustrate this very principle during one of HIS teaching opportunities: "When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; and he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.  But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.  For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."  And did HE not furthermore personify this blessed truth through HIS incarnation? "WHO, being in the form of GOD, thought it not robbery to be equal with GOD: but made HIMSELF of no reputation, and took upon HIM the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled HIMSELF ... Wherefore GOD also hath highly exalted HIM, and given HIM a NAME which is above every name: that at the NAME of JESUS every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD, to the glory of GOD the FATHER."

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in CHRIST JESUS:"  All who insist on leading their own lives will regret they did, when they open their eyes in death to discover the end of that road.  The foolish reluctance to bow beneath the yoke of humility not only forfeits honor, but fosters an arrogance that feeds on itself until it consumes all about it, and most tragically, one's own soul for all eternity.

"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
