Called to Commune

August 23

"THOU preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: ..."  Psalms 23:5

"... HE has not saved us to isolate, or to insulate; but to infiltrate."

If we are to be like our LORD, there must be a hunger on our part to win over every foe to HIS side; no matter how unwinnable we perceive them to be.  "And when the scribes and Pharisees saw HIM eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto HIS disciples, how is it that HE eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?"  Keep back no chairs, for all are invited of HIM to HIS table!  "... when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:"  Open to the public, and handicap accessible, this Soup Kitchen serves up salvation 24\7 to each soul who'll not pass it up.  There is nothing discreet here at all; for the table of grace is not positioned behind enemy lines, but rather in the midst of them.  "... and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  I pray not that THOU shouldest take them out of the world, but that THOU shouldest keep them from the evil ... As THOU hast sent ME into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world."  Brethren, HE has not saved us to isolate, or to insulate; but to infiltrate.  HIS table is HIS cross, as mobile as the multitudes; and we whom HE has invited, the porters.  "... come, take up the cross, and follow ME."

Ever eat in front of hungry people?  Come to HIS table with gladness, that you might provoke a longing to join us out among the famished masses.  "HE brought me to the banqueting house, and HIS banner over me was love."  Belly-up, the LORD prepares like company is comin' over, and all the fixin's are HIS.  There is nothing thrown together here, just the down home recipes of Heaven which grace HIS buffet.

"Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to HIM: for the marriage of the LAMB is come, and HIS wife hath made herself ready."  One day soon, the table will move from its temporal place here, to its permanent location there.  The enemies of CHRIST who now taunt and scoff at the table will be no more; but for now, don't turn them aside in your pride this side of that day.  Keep reaching out, and remember how many invites were extended to you before you finally sat down.

"And HE saith unto me, write, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the LAMB. And HE saith unto me, these are the true sayings of GOD."

"Man derives his greatest happiness not by that which he does for himself, but by what he accomplishes for others.  This is a sad world at best--a world of sorrow, or suffering, of injustice, and falsification ... but it is for the followers of our LORD to improve it, and to make it more as CHRIST would have it."
