The Eve of Eve

August 21

"And the LORD GOD caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: ..."   Genesis 2:21

"Are you a sufferer of spiritual insomnia?"

Are you a sufferer of spiritual insomnia?  Have you turned a deaf ear to the lullaby of HIS loving care toward you?  What is GOD wishing to accomplish in you that HE can't or won't do in your conscious state?  Strange as it may sound, ask yourself: What could GOD do on your eternal behalf, if you would just go to sleep in your Christian life?  "It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so HE giveth HIS beloved sleep."  So much is preached and taught regarding the importance of spiritual sobriety, that I fear we loose sight of the benefit of a good night's rest in our SAVIOR.  "And the LORD GOD said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."  Here, in Genesis, at the frontier of who we are, GOD met our most urgent need of companionship while working the late shift.  "My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.  HE will not suffer thy foot to be moved: HE that keepeth thee will not slumber.  Behold, HE that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep."  How blessed it is to know the LORD is at work at all hours to provide and care for HIS own!  "and HE took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;   HE is the great PHYSICIAN! ... and HIS anesthetic sure, but not optional.  Adam willingly went 'under the knife' of HIS grace, drifting off to sleep on this eve of his Eve.  In the morning his eyes would trip his tongue to exclaim: 'Whoa-man' (w¢m¹en) ... at first glance of how the LORD GOD had operated overnight.

"And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him."  It is the 'modus operandi' of HIS infinite power to dull one's awareness of the same.  "And HE said, thou canst not see MY face: for there shall no man see ME, and live."  All who dare to sleep with one eye open, rob themselves of a visit in the night watch.  You can lie awake if you want safeguarding your rib cage; but in the process, you'll forfeit the helpmeet of your deepest need(s) which GOD is anxious to supply.

"And the rib, which the LORD GOD had taken from man, made HE a woman, and brought her unto the man.  And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman ..."
