Don't Fiddle With Fidelity

April 27

"I gave ... Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared GOD above many."  Nehemiah 7:2

"... the only way to accurately gauge it, is to afford the opportunity for its antithesis."

Fidelity is a rare word in the vernacular, and rarer still its practice: "... a faithful man who can find?"  The opening line of that proverb of Solomon states that: "Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness:"  Faithfulness, loyalty, and fidelity ... are all divisive, they demand we: "... choose you this day whom ye will serve; ..." and no choice, is loyalty to a lost cause: "... but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."  Fidelity defines itself in the strict and exact observance to devotion and duty. This concept requires an honorable spirit, a yielded will, and a surrendered heart of love toward the object of faith.  There is sadly though, an epidemic of self-loyalty among us (aka: pride) ... spiritless smack talkers, strutting about in HIS church with a puffed chest, and an equally disproportionate cranium.  Man's infidelity in the garden turned him out as an infidel; but through the SPIRIT of GOD entering in to deflate the chest, the lost can be restored loyal.

"He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much."  Loyalty must be spawned in the pool of responsibility; and the only way to accurately gauge it, is to afford the opportunity for its antithesis.  "Peter said unto him, LORD, ... I will lay down my life for THY sake.  JESUS answered him, wilt thou lay down thy life for MY sake ... The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied ME thrice."  Desert your post and passion for GOD, even for a moment, and the imps of Hell will exploit that void.  Disloyalty holds all the potential for vast and personal destruction!

"Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful."  Some would have us believe that faith and fear are polar opposites.  Hananiah, however, was a faithful steward; who caught the eye of this delegate Governor, and was elevated to the top because he held both.  For all who hold like sentiment toward the LORD, they will one day hear:

"... well done, thou good and faithful servant"

"Where did the revolutionary ideas expressed in the Mayflower Compact come from?  From the Bible.  The Pilgrims were a people completely steeped in the lessons of the Old and New Testaments.  They looked to the ancient Israelites for their example.  And, because of the Biblical precedents set forth in Scripture, they never doubted that their experiment would work ..."
