Search and Rescue

April 18

"And ye shall seek ME, and find ME, when ye shall search for ME with all your heart."  Jeremiah 29:13

"HE does not become elusive, but the intensity of the mission is magnified ..."

Finding GOD is not as difficult as some would lead us to believe.  HE initiates our  initiative, revealing HIMSELF in a myriad of ways, both external and internal.  "The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon HIM, to all that call upon HIM in truth."  Remember, it is GOD WHO says that HE is not willing that any should perish, bidding the sinner to: "Seek ye the LORD while HE may be found, call ye upon HIM while HE is near:" ... and it was Paul who closed the loop on this most blessed of all truths in writing to Rome and informing them (and us) that: "... whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD, shall be saved."

Scripture affirms, more than anything else, that GOD is in the search and rescue business: "And the LORD GOD called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou?"  Once found, HE entrusts to us HIS light in aiding the search for additional souls lost in darkness: "... ye are the light of the world".  As members of HIS search party, the only power for our lamp is in the outlet of our relationship to HIM (cf. Psalm 119:105); and as our experience on the team goes, so goes the pace.  HE does not become elusive, but the intensity of the mission is magnified more and more with each passing hour.  With the day of HIS return drawing ever nigh, there is a commensurate urgency to usher as many as possible through the straight gate, and onto the narrow way (cf. Matthew 7:13-14).  Those who truly mature in the LORD, will find that HE rises early and stays up late searching out the hearts of men.  Our estimate of CHRIST and HIS Gospel will determine the effort we expend to nurture that partnership.  The dividend of the expenditure is priceless, therefore no costs should be considered too high.  "When THOU saidst, seek ye MY face; my heart said unto THEE, THY face, LORD, will I seek."

If you find yourself separated from the search party, look close, the distance can be measured from your eye to your heart: "Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD."  For every Christian who truly understands all this, nothing shall offend to the point that they abandon the search.

"Great peace have they which love THY law: and nothing shall offend them."

(Revolutionary leader for American Independence)
"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, by by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST."
